Plasmodium belongs to the phylum Chromatophora, Phylum Acanthozoa, Class Vertebrata, Order Haemosporidae, and Family Plasmodium. It is a mosquito-borne sporozoite, and is the causative agent of malaria. Plasmodium parasitic in humans has two hosts, mosquitoes and humans, and can reproduce sexually in mosquitoes or proliferate asexually in humans. Anopheles mosquitoes carrying Plasmodium are transmitted by biting humans, causing malaria fever and cold episodes. Other species of Plasmodium infect other species of animals, including other primates, rodents, and lizard-like animals.
