Trichinella spiralis is referred to as Spiralworm, and trichinelliasis caused by it is one of the human-animal parasitic diseases. Its clinical manifestations are characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms, swelling, high fever, and severe myalgia. It has a wide range of hosts (conserved hosts include pigs, rats, cats, and dogs), with larval cysts as the infective stage and oral infection. The adult worms are parasitic in the small intestine and the larvae are parasitic in the transverse muscle cells (adult and larvae parasitize the same host and are both final and intermediate hosts). Both its larvae and adults can cause disease.
